ANZAC Biscuits

On Tuesday we learnt about Anzac biscuits and why they're important.  Then we made them!  They were so yum!  However, there was a challenge - we had to create the packaging for our biscuits to go in.  We could use any materials we wanted and decorate them however we wanted.  What a great job everyone did.  Miss Sharland is super proud of how well you all worked in your teams.  Superb effort!!

Dancing

We spent three Monday afternoons with Miss van der Merwe learning all about dance.  We had to think about things like expressing ourselves, moving our body, responding to the beat.  We had a whole lot of fun whilst we were learning about the elements of dance. Thanks Miss van der Merwe!

AROHA

Last week, when we were in the ICT room, we had a big talk about AROHA and what it means to us.  It's great to see that so many of us know what it means and what it looks like in the classroom, the playground and around the school.  We then used Kidpix to draw our heart and write our 5 values.

Murray's Weekend

Korban was our Duffy Certificate winner last week for always doing the right thing at the right time. This meant that he got to spend the weekend with Murray and they did some fantastic things!  On Friday night, Murray had a sleep over at Korban's Aunty's house with him.  He even wore his seatbelt when he was in the car!  Thanks for making sure Murray was safe Korban.  They played xbox and went over to Palmerston North to go on the Marriner Reserve Railway.  Korban and Murray went over a bridge and through a tunnel on the train.  Another exciting weekend for Murray!

Painted Animal Faces

A couple of weeks ago we started making animal faces with Mrs Martin.  We looked carefully at a photo of our chosen animal and then thought hard about it's features such as its eyes, markings, nose shape, whiskers etc.  From here we carefully painted our animal faces to make them look as realistic as possible.  Now we have a scary jungle wall.  Thanks Mrs Martin!

Avatars

Today we learnt how to create an avatar using buildyourselfwild.com.  We had to think carefully about what our hair looks like, what our eyes look like as well as our mouths.  From there we could choose any arms, legs, tails, bottoms and wings that we wanted.  Don't we look cool!

LSS Values

Welcome to our new LSS Values! LSS children are going to have lots of AROHA.

Akohia (learning)
Respect
Ownership
Hautoa (courage)
Ambition.

When we talked about them we decided that we would write down what they look like in our classroom and everywhere else in the school. We even gave each part of AROHA an animal to make it easier for us to remember. Look at what we came up with.

There is always a lot to do in 'The Jungle' during wet lunchtimes.

The boys had their Rippa Rugby Tournament on Saturday and what a fantastic tournament it was! Turboman arrived in an iriquois. Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Elmo, Darth Vader, Spongebob Square Pants and Rugga were all there! There was live music and scrummy food! Frano Botica was the guest speaker and some of the boys were lucky enough to shake his hand. Imagine that - shaking an ex All Blacks hand!

All of the boys played really well and a big congratulations go to Fergus (and Lachlann from Room 16) who played for Scotland and were the overall winners!! Superb effort boys!

During Discovery Time we did Marble Art and what fun we had!!

First, we had to write our name on the back of our paper.
Then, we had to put our paper in the tote tray.
After that, we picked up a marble out of whatever colour we wanted to use and put it in the tray.
Then, we moved the tray side to side and front to back and our marble ran all over our paper.
We kept doing this with different colours until we had our art just the way we wanted it.

What a super messy activity but oh so much fun!

Friday is Discovery Time Day! How exciting. Today's focus was to think about a problem that we encounter and how we fixed our problem. There was a lot of great talking 'on the go' but we found it much harder to reflect about our problem solving. We'll try this again next week to help us better understand about problem solving and solutions.

We wrote fabulous taniwha stories last week and then we drew our pictures using Kidpix. We really like how our pictures match our descriptions that we had written.

We are learning to take risks this term so we combined this with our Marae visits and used our new learning about taking risks to create our taniwha art. We are really happy with how we took the time to think about creating exciting artwork. We used crayon and dye so had to think carefully about not colouring in all of the paper so that the dye had somewhere to soak in to. What a great job we did. What do you think?
