The other day at school, Miss Jones found a lonely, lost hedgehog. She rescued it and took it into the classroom so Room 1 could have a good look! Bet there are lots of children who have never seen a hedgehog up close since they are nocturnal animals.

Here are some hedgehog facts:

1. Hedgehogs rely on their spines for protection and roll into a tight ball when they are in danger.

2. In winter, hedgehogs hibernate (they go into hiding).

3. Males are slightly larger than females but the difference in size and weight can not really be seen.

4. They can travel up to 3km in one night.
