Monster Attack

For one writing session we created our own monsters and then wrote about them.  We had to think about adjectives and compound sentences as well as including lots of information.

Art

We have been learning how to draw our own pictures.  We do it step by step as a class and then use materials to colour them in.  We have done cats and dragonflies using crayon and dye and on Friday we did a cow using pastel.  Things we had to think about were spacing, size, colour and colouring in with no white spaces.
Have a look at our wonderful art.

The Rainbow Fish

For the last few weeks we have been concentrating really hard on our story writing.  We have been included things such as adjectives, compound sentences and different sentence beginnings.  Last week, we read 'The Rainbow Fish' and then retold the story.  Read our wonderful stories and look at our awesome art!

Questioning

As part of our Inquiry unit, we have been learning about questioning - how to ask a good question, what a good question is, questions that give us lots of information in the answer and questions that only give us a yes or no answer.

Here we are concentrating hard and thinking up awesome questions.

Jaye's Writing

On Monday, Mrs Heyward's husband brought his truck in to school for all the Junior Jets to have a look at.  We did some writing about what happened when we got back to class.  Jaye worked particularly hard and did a beautiful piece of writing with adjectives and compound sentences.  Well done Jaye!

2012 London Olympics

We have been learning about the 2012 London Olympics.  We even watched some of the events with our families.  We spent a writing session writing about what we knew about the Olympics.  Read our wonderful writing.

The Duffy Song!!!

The Duffy Show

Today we had The Duffy Show with Duffy, Scruffy and The Best Book in the World.  What a fabulous show!  We had lots of 'jobs' to do and had lots of opportunities to laugh.  We learnt that even though you can't read, someone else will be able to help you so you don't have to miss out on the fantastic books that we have.  There is always time for reading!

Fundamental Skills

Cameron from Sport Manawatu came to school to help us with our running, jumping and throwing.  We spent 5 sessions with him doing all sorts of different activities like dribbling, high jump, sprinting, egg and spoon races and vortex throwing.  We learnt a lot of different skills and techniques and it helped us to realise the things that we weren't very good at so we can now practise them and get better at them.
Thanks so much Cameron!

On Monday we had Bob Bickerton come to visit us.  He showed us all the wonderful instruments that he could play and taught us a little bit about them.  Bob first learnt an instrument when he was 21 and hasn't stopped playing since.  He was absolutely wonderful to listen to.  Here's some pictures from his show.

Term 3

A very belated 'Welcome to Term 3'.  We've been so busy that we haven't had time to update the Blog.  Boy have we been doing some fantastic learning this term!  And we've had some great people coming to visit us.  Keep following us to see all the wonderful things we are doing.

Market Day

Market Day was AMAZING.  Lots of parents came down to buy our products and then we had fun spending our 'wages'.  All of our products sold out really fast!  None of our businesses made a profit but we'll know for next year that we have to make lots of products in order to cover our materials and wages.
Fantastic effort everyone and a big THANK YOU to Tai, Jaxon and Chloe for helping us with our stall.

Jaye's Free Choice Writing

Read Jaye's fantastic story that she wrote during free choice writing.  Great work Jaye - I like how you went back and edited your work and how you included your feelings.

Last night I could not get to sleep because Milly kept wanting me to give her a pat so I had to get up.  I was not happy.  So I'm very tired today.  Every night I can't get to sleep because of Milly.  So tonight I have to remember to shut my door.

Abstract Tree Art

The leaves have fallen off the tree now but we've kept things bright and colourful in the classroom by creating these Abstract Autumn Trees using pastels and indian ink.  We think they look great!

Autumn Leaves

The leaves are falling and we've been having fun writing about them and drawing them (oh ok - as well as running through them and crunching them under our feet).

Read our stories about the autumn leaves falling off the trees.
